February 16 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

“Co-directors Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi tell the extraordinary story of the singer, whom director Pedro Almodóvar called “la voz áspera de la ternura” (the rough voice of tenderness), in a film that is as marbled with pathos as Vargas’ life itself.”

LMNOP: Lesbian Movie Night Ongoing Project is a monthly event dedicated to the showcase of films by or about lesbians, specifically SULTRY, AGGRESSIVE, EMOTIONAL, OUTRAGEOUS, SWEET SAPPHIC LIFE + LOVE. This is a film series conceived in solidarity with the much broader DEEP LEZ cultural campaign (coined by Allyson Mitchell) to promote UNAPOLOGETIC AND FULL FLEDGED LESBIAN HEARTBREAK, TRIUMPH, AND WEIRDNESS.

Lesbian Movie Night Ongoing Project Film Criteria:

The film is directed by a woman. ( “woman” as defined by the director for single-use only)

If anyone is having sex, it had better be a lesbian.

The film does not end in lesbian defeat or death AS A RESULT OF BEING A LESBIAN.

Lesbians are on the screen, anyone can be on the couch.

History: LMNOP was conceived in 2011 by filmmaker Daviel Shy and her (former) roommate and forever comrade, feminist killjoy Danny Orendorff. (from 2011-2013) The event was held monthly at Shy + Orendorff’s Chicago-based lesbian palace known as Margaritaville. (from 2013- 2015) it was held at Shy and feminist music educator, Kate Walsh’s Chicago residence known as Dawson’s Creak. (from 2015-2016) It occurred at Shy + Sound Artist LeCiel’s Chicago residence known as House of El and from 2016-2017 it moved with the pair, to LA, to the house of El #2. After a stint hosted in guest homes, one-off events, and a brief hiatus, LMNOP is back! and will resume its monthly occurrence from its first PUBLIC location, Book Show in Highland Park!!!!
